ABOUT LIZ MITCHELL
Liz Mitchell MNZM, is one of New Zealand’s leading fashion designers, specialising in bespoke tailoring and championing New Zealand wool. Working out of her Auckland-based atelier, Liz and the team are passionate about the handmade craftsmanship of couture - creating clothes of timeless elegance, quality and sustainability.
In 2005, Liz Mitchell was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, MNZM, for her service to the fashion industry. She has designed garments for leading New Zealand women, most recently Auckland Art Gallery Toi O Tamaki Director, Kirsten Lacy, and Governor-Generals of New Zealand; Dame Cindy Kiro, Dame Patsy Reddy and Dame Silvia Cartwright. Her bespoke designs range from corporate tailored suits to Academy red carpet gowns, many which have been collected and archived over the years by Te Papa Tongarewa, Museum of New Zealand.
Liz’s interest in circular fashion encouraged the establishment of her Wool and Natural Fibres Textile Hub at the Corban Estate Art Centre in 2023. Liz believes that addressing the challenges of today’s wool industry and working towards solutions for a more regenerative, healthier planet start with community, made-to-order production and promoting this incredible fibre.
Liz Mitchell was recently chosen as a Coralus Venture, joining a community dedicated to achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals. Simultaneously a member of Campaign for Wool, a global endeavour initiated in 2010 by the former Prince of Wales, Liz’s work proves that the relationship between fibre and fashion can one of beauty, circularity and human connection.
